Hope in a Boat

I wonder at the bravery of people who are willing to pack up everything and start again, setting off on a journey in the hope that they and their children will find a better life. I wonder at the callousness of Governments that say "go away, we don't want you here".

Hope in a Boat was a series about emigration and immigration, exhibited in 2012 at Hazelhurst Regional Galley, Sydney NSW.

At the exhibition, people were invited to write their own hopes on the exhibition postcards.
There were lots of different views, here is a sample …
“Dear refergee [sic]. I hope evreone is happy.”
“I hope that my grandchildren have the opportunities to enjoy life as much as I have.” Robert.
“I’ll be the country’s first female astronaut (or Pope) showing true equality”
“The restoration of the Burmese Democratic Party.”
“I hope for the Ice Dojo comes out on Club Penguin in June 2012”
“For equality for ALL mankind, but not to the detriment of the planet”

Before the Boom

One of the prints from my Fragile Earth series. This print is unique; the series is related to our impact on the earth. It's an etching with gold leaf, printed on fine Japanese paper.

Pages from a Book

The book showed Lis with hair and Lis without hair. With hair she had a full and complex life, playing many roles that were appreciated and acknowledged. Without hair she disappeared. People recognised two states, statistic and sufferer, but they no longer saw the person.

Pause

This print is entitled Pause and was done for first Inkteraction print exchange.
I didn't have access to a studio at the time and it was an interesting exercise to print completely by hand - my cheap little baren was almost worn out by the end. I did an edition of 15 for the exchange which means there wasn't one left for me. I might do a second edition so I have a couple to keep.
